Why the Apple laptop battery so expensive?

i'm looking for a battery for my PowerBook G4 and PowerBook G3 ,the batteries models is Apple A1078 battery , Apple A1008 battery , Apple A1079 battery , Apple A1060 battery , Apple A1148 battery , Apple M8244 battery , Apple M7426 battery.see that it's at least $100. apple website sells it for 185. why are they so expensive? just seems like a waste to spend $100+ on a A1012 battery when the you can get laptops thee days for 300-400.
Most batteries are made of lithium-ion now. It's a material that is more expensive than the nickel metal hydrate and nickel cadmium, which were used in the older batteries. They're not only expensive in laptops but also in power tools.
Lithium-ion has been proven to last a lot longer and hold more power than the older types of batteries; therefore reducing the amount of M8244 batteries being wasted.
They've been trying to lower the amount of rechargeable batteries being wasted also because these M6091 batteries contain mercury; so they need to be disposed of as hazardous waste.
